a good pairing?

a lot has happened as of late. but to spare all that, here are two things.. lee fields and people booking it on fixed gears. i hope to combine the two together tomorrow. lee fields in my ears, and my legs running wildly out of control.

one song.

i love falling upon songs that were once favorites, but that have been mistakenly, at some point, buried in the mass of new songs being dumped into my itunes.. this one came about when a friend was looking for salt n peppa, but luckily it fell in alphabetical order before them, and a mistaken double click gave me a refreshing and familiar intro to a song that used to be my favorite.

mixing melodies.

tonight my friend ian, who co-runs voulesrandom.com dropped by for our usual monday night hang out/creative musical writing session, and asked me to do a very last minute mix that he had to submit tonight. he arrived with a bottle of italian red he had selected the other day, a pound of fists, and a nice conversation back and forth over my trunk/coffee table. two cigarettes, a glass or two of wine, and a sweaty undershirt (rid of it's un buttoned button up shirt mid set) later, it ended in this.

i've grown a new found love for what i like to call 'casbah influenced electro jamz', and played around with them for the first time tonight.. it's overly 'electronic', but if that's what you're after, take this with you for your journey! it will be streamed live on last.fm this saturday. i'll also be playing a jazz influenced night with rob vilar and mikey mmmuscles (mike b) on the 2nd floor of ragpickers that night.

for real?

yesterday was spent hopping around town with my friend jesse. coffee, pints (after pints after pints, and so on), yam fries, walking, a little bit of rain, a nice chunk of vilar, and a fight. well not so much a fight. as shy as i am, i do tend to get mouthy sometimes, and last night was not the right time. all be it under my breath, after getting an overly random amount of slurs pushed our way, which led to the cliche 'what was that? what what' from them, and then into me getting punched in the face. almost at jesse's car, but not quite. into the middle lane of river just passed g martini, my decision to wear beach sandals led to a trip and proceeded to getting kicked in the head and ribs several times. nice way to spend a tuesday night. more so pissed they stole my cigarettes, which i dropped at some point, the friendly crew of very athletic looking guys that came out of g martinis and chased them off, were nice enough to offer me one, sitting in the street with blood all over my hands. the only thing that bothers me is that this has been becoming more common around there. i was totally oblivious to it. i hate that shit. in all honesty, people like that should not be on the streets, have a free life, or even be living for that fact. needless to say, the rap has been pumping in this apartment today, trying to blow my nose (without any luck), tho still able to laugh at some of these songs. rick james with busta rhymes? yessss. so good.

back to the opera. i've come to always play stuff off of awdio.com when i get home later. 'costes' and 'murano' (both from paris) tend to have really good jazz/classical stuff playing late in this time zone, which makes my night. in this case, i just got home to find some really nice classical guitar, into pavarotti & zucchero hitting it off, and now into some nice 50's classic jazz, heavily horn influenced. tonight i suppose, it is a bad thing, as i intend on listening to two LPs of pavarotti's 'best of' before crawling into bed. i guess it's all for the best..?
